Silver is GoldenStory by Jeff Feldsher - October 20,2007 Think you see an awful lot of silver cars on the road? Well you’d be right; silver/grey is again the most popular new car color choice in North America with 22% of buyers choosing that color. White and black trail by a good margin coming in at about 16% each, surprisingly red and blue only account for 13% and 12% respectively.
What makes silver so special?
"It's a very neutral color, but it really defines the shape and lines of a vehicle, It also does a good job of hiding dirt." said Jane Harrington, manager of color styling at PPG.
According to the Color Marketing Group, yellow, green and blue are expected to see a substantial rise in popularity in the near future. Trouble is yellow and especially red cars have always had a bad rap. Even though it has been proven red and yellow are the easiest colors to see when driving, (ever see a silver fire truck?) these colors have been associated with sports cars and higher risk drivers. Some insurance companies still charge an extra premium to insure these vehicles.
